Enhancing Employee Wellness

A Vital Strategy for UK Businesses

In today’s fast-paced business environment, employee wellness has become a critical focus for UK businesses. Recent data underscores the growing challenges in maintaining a healthy and productive workforce, while simultaneously addressing mental health concerns to reduce staff turnover.

The Mental Health Crisis at Work

Champion health reports that poor mental health now accounts for over half of all work-related illnesses, with stress, anxiety, and depression leading the charge. Notably, 76% of professionals report experiencing moderate to high levels of stress, with around 60% of employees feeling anxious.

These issues have a tangible impact on productivity, as many employees report that their mental health challenges are leading to presenteeism—where they are physically at work but not fully functioning – affecting overall business performance.

Resilience and Its Role in Employee Performance

Another factor having major impacts on the workforce is low staff resilience, with it being reported  that nearly 63% of all staff are showing at least one sign of low resilience. The consequences of low staff resilience can be severe. Employees with low resilience often struggle to cope with stress and recover from setbacks, leading to increased absenteeism and burnout. New mental health research shows that the cost to employers of poor mental health is £51bn per year factoring in high turnover rates, and additional training and recruitment costs for employers.

The Need for Resilience Building, through Training

The challenge is clear: there is an urgent need to support employee mental health and resilience. Given that a healthy workforce is intrinsically linked to business success, investing in employee wellness is not just beneficial but essential for long-term sustainability. This is why our team of psychologists here at PsycApps, created the CPD accredited Resilience Training programme.

Resilience training equips employees with the tools they need to cope with stress, adapt to change, and bounce back from challenges that they may face, both inside and outside of the workplace. By developing healthy strategies, employees can reduce the impact of stress, and maintain productivity even in difficult times. As part of a broader wellness strategy, resilience training helps decrease staff turnover, and build a more adaptable workforce, capable of thriving in today’s challenging economic environment.

Fortune telling happens when you predict negative outcomes without any real evidence. Your mind jumps to the worst-case scenario, and you start believing it’s inevitable.

Understanding Reciprocity

Ever heard the phrase, “You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours”? That’s reciprocity in a nutshell!

Understanding Expectancy Effect

Expectancy effect happens when your beliefs or expectations about a person, event, or situation influence your behaviour in a way that makes those expectations come true.

Understanding Confirmation Bias

Ever noticed how once you’ve made up your mind about something, you just seem to find endless proof to back it up? That’s confirmation bias.

Understanding Secondary Appraisal of Events

Stress is an inevitable part of life. But how we respond to it can make all the difference.

How to Map Your Resources for Support

Resource mapping is all about identifying the various forms of support in your life—people, places, and things that make you feel good and that you can rely on when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Understanding Diet

To really see results in your overall well-being, what you eat (and how much of it) plays an important role.

Understanding Must and Ought Statements

“Must,” “ought,” and “should” beliefs and statements are cognitive distortions that make you view situations rigidly and judgmentally.
